It has been awhile since I have come across a good band, and Icelandic folk/indie pop group, Of Monsters and Men are just simply amazing live, as well as humble. It is not a coincidence that they have been compared to another fan favourite Canadian ensemble, Arcade Fire. And duo singers, Nanna Hilmarsdottir, and Ragnar Porhallsson don’t hide the fact that “Arcade Fire and Edward Sharpe and Magnetic Zeros have both been highly influential in their musical endeavors.” The band came to rise from winning a battle of the bands competition in Iceland and video recording a performance on KEXP Seattle Radio that happened to went viral on YouTube. Their first single, Little Talk, is highly infectious and feel-good listening. One the best new bands to come out in the last year. Go out and buy their first album, My Head is an Animal. And if you weren’t one of the lucky people to snatch up tickets to catch their sold out show at The Phoenix, they are playing both Osheaga, and Lollapalooza this year.
