The Flaming Lips were the headlining act of this year’s NXNE music festival in Toronto. Despite the large amount of promotional advertising blocking both the sound and sight lines for thousands of eager fans, The Flaming Lips brought their usual hijinks of balloons, confetti, lasers and man sized hamster balls to downtown Toronto. Playing a set list somewhat devoid of some larger and more known and beloved songs, they tried to balance the tone between hopeful and somber (due to the Radiohead stage collapse) with songs like “Waiting for Superman” and a cover of Radiohead’s “Knives Out.” They would close with “Do You Realize,” as they wished torontonians to carry on the good will and vibes with them even after the show ended. It is impossible for The Flaming Lips to let you down.
