Metric ~ June 23rd, 2012 ~ The Commodore Ballroom ~ Vancouver, BC ~ Harris Kidd

Metric played an intimate show at The Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver to showcase their new album “Synthetica”. In doing so they reminded me why they are one of the most entertaining Canadian bands out there today. You can’t help but stand in awe as Emily Haines bounds across the stage, blows the hair out of her face and whispers “more more” into the microphone. Or how with a tambourine in her hand she becomes a frontwoman possessed. The evidence is also in Jimmy Shaw’s spine tingling riffs in “Monster Hospital” or the grooves laid down by Josh and Joules that get you bouncing on the balls of your feet.

As well as the classics, their set included ten of the eleven songs off the new album. To end the show, they performed a shiver inducing acoustic version of “Gimme Sympathy” as an encore. Canada is on the metric system for a reason.

    Synthetica is for real.
